Just a little twist…
So, we started making the hutch, or coop, or “Covey Continental.” After making the first basic shape, we’ve decided that there’s a need to reengineer both our basic concept and our material selection criteria. We’ve been trying to be both fiscally responsible and self sufficient; however, doing these both at the same time is posing some challenges.
Upon standing the structure up for the first time, we discovered a wobble. About 2’ of wobble between the front right and back left legs exists, seemingly, regardless of the level of the ground it’s placed on. I replaced a few smaller boards, one at a time, but to no avail. Mrs. came out to inspect my worm and politely inform me that the large rear support board had an impressive twist in it. If she’s impressed, I’m concerned. We’ll get this one corrected, but I’m learning more about carpentry than I’m comfortable with. The whole assembly sits too high, as well, but that just part of the evolution and is easily remedied.
In the meantime, I’m drawing up plans to aggressively overcompensate a habitat for, probably, 2 Button Quail. Current design criteria include multiple grasses and/or grains, a river, steel shade structures, bonsai trees, water catch basins, pumps, aviary netting, and two separate, but complimentary levels. Check out the Facebook or Instagram for pictures of that as I color the design and start working.
